Green Light in Schools

Environmental choices start as soon as we begin to think about the world around us. Green Light New Orleans’ Educational Program is designed to work with students of all ages by bringing concepts of environmental action into New Orleans classrooms and educational settings. For more information, or to request a partnership, please email Jess Bloomer at green@greenlightneworleans.org

In the Classroom
The Green Light in the Classroom provides a series of educational sessions for schools in New Orleans. Through the hands-on Green Light curriculum, students learn about their role as earth citizens, and the impact of energy use on the environment. The program focuses on the power of making choices and taking action that will sustain a healthy environment. Students brainstorm solution-based steps they can take to address environmental problems. Each series of lessons is capped with an activity- usually installing energy efficient light bulbs- to emphasize the power each individual has as a decision maker in her/his wider. Green Light Environmental Clubs
The Green Light in Schools program can be tailored to a specific learning environment. We currently provide a range of options, including Green Light In the Classroom, curriculum support for teachers, and partnership with school environmental clubs. Green Light currently partners with environmental clubs at New Orleans high schools. High school students take ownership of their involvement with the Green Light program, organizing volunteer days, and educating their peers about energy conservation.
