Join the movement and help New Orleans residents take action to reduce their own energy use and grow their own food. You will be one of over 13,000 volunteers from New Orleans, all over the U.S., and abroad who have generously dedicated their time to the New Orleans community through Green Light.

Your time will make a difference!

In just one day, you and your friends can install energy efficient CFLs in 8 homes, saving each household an average of $920 over the 3-5 year lifetime of the bulbs. Your efforts will also reduce the carbon footprint of the community by an average of 71,000 pounds of CO2, which is equal to the CO2 emissions from 4,000 gallons of gasoline consumed (source: www.epa.gov/cleanenergy/energy-resources/calculator.html).

You will also be able to build a backyard vegetable garden and provide access to healthy food for a New Orleans family.

Installing light bulbs and building backyard vegetable gardens is fun! Our program is unique because you actually get to meet the recipients of your service in their own homes. As Jane Detwiler, a volunteer from Massachusetts, put it:

“The best way to build trust and understanding in another is to share their truth, to meet them face to face and converse with them. Green Light NOLA afforded us this opportunity. ”

We offer year-round VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Monday through Saturday for groups of any size. After you submit the form below, our volunteer coordinator will contact you to discuss the details. For help call 504-324-2429.
