Whether you are a local business or are here for a convention, we offer volunteer opportunities for corporate and business community involvement. It's fun and rewarding.
"It was one of the best organized (volunteer experiences). I felt that my time
was well utilized." -MJ, volunteer, Arlington, VA
"When I came home to Annapolis, Maryland I bought some CFLs for my house and my room at home! Small steps, but everything counts! Thanks for the opportunity to make a difference! I am constantly spreading the word and I wear my green light t-shirt with pride, ready to tell others and answer any questions!" Dara Silbert
"Our time volunteering with Green Light New Orleans as Chevron employees participating in the “Mentoring Excellence in Technology” (MET) program was an extremely positive experience.
Many of us had never been to New Orleans before, but we wanted to combine two missions of our group—learning about energy efficiency and the oil & gas value chain—during our trip to the Gulf Coast. We saw the opportunity to volunteer with Green Light New Orleans as an ideal fit.
As we had only half a day to volunteer, we were impressed that the employees at Green Light worked with us to plan our time so that we could maximize the number of homes we were able to visit.
Having not volunteered with Green Light New Orleans before, and as “safety first” is our Chevron culture, our group reviewed some safety information before our trip. More impressive was when we arrived to the Green Light New Orleans office and found the employees were quite prepared. They split us into teams, explained what we’d be doing, reviewed safety precautions regarding broken bulbs, and gave us written instructions, directions, and maps. This script they handed us helped us feel comfortable to know what to say when we entered peoples’ homes.
We found the homeowners/renters to be very nice and gracious. Their homes were clean and safe. As we discussed how we’d be installing the light bulbs, they shared with us their individual stories. This was an added benefit that we hadn’t anticipated receiving; not only were we increasing their energy efficiency and helping them to save money, we were making connections with very interesting local people.
Overall we were very happy with our experience volunteering with Green Light New Orleans. Some of us had volunteered at other places (e.g., distributing food to homeless) where the experience was anything but positive. Although we were able to only donate a half day of our time, the impact we made on the community--and their impact on us—will remain with us for years to come.
We appreciated the opportunity and we thank the prepared staff at Green Light New Orleans for helping us to achieve a successful volunteer experience which contributed to our Learning Group’s mission. We would recommend this opportunity to other corporate volunteers without hesitation.
