Planning a vacation in New Orleans? Want to make volunteer work a part of your trip? Would you like to see places you would normally not see? Volunteer with Green Light New Orleans! Voluntourists have a blast. Doing good not only is good, it makes for a good time. Now that’s the perfect New Orleans gumbo!
Volunteering and voluntourism are one of the best ways to interact with and learn about an area and its culture at a grassroots level, and in an environment of friendship and mutual respect.
Voluntourism is an opportunity for the ‘enlightened tourist’ to experience the host community, and
learn about the culture and customs through direct involvement with the residents.
The experience is further enhanced by the knowledge that by far the greater portion of your financial contribution goes directly towards improving the capacity of the host community and is not soaked up before it reaches those who really are in need of it.
